National Teen Driver Safety Week (October 19 – 25th, 2025)

Tammy McGee of the Gweedo Memorial Foundation

The National Teen Driver Safety Week (October 19 – 25th, 2025) is a time to raise awareness about the risks that teen drivers face and to reduce the number of accidents involving young drivers. This week serves as a reminder to both teens and their parents of the importance of responsible driving.  Inexperience behind the wheel, combined with risky behaviors, can lead to fatal accidents.

The Vincent R. Gagliardi Foundation was thrilled to sponsor Tammy McGee, of the Gweedo Memorial Foundation to speak at Somerville High School, Bridgewater-Raritan High School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.  Tammy speaks nationwide to schools and organizations to educate new teenage drivers and their parents on the dangers of destructive driving decisions.

Tammy lost her son Conner, aka “Gweedo” to all of his friends, at the age of 16 in an automobile crash on October 26, 2019.  Tammy has become a strong advocate for teen safe driver education in Virginia and across the country.  She raises awareness and was the driving force behind five bills that she secured in the State of Virginia and is currently working on several more.   Tammy gave three powerful and inspiring presentations today to approximately 950 combined students that left them with the message that there isn’t a do over when you are behind the wheel and there are consequences to bad decisions.  We deeply appreciate Tammy and her husband Dan and “Keeper” her service dog for traveling up from Virginia to spread this message.

Car crashes are the leading cause of unintentional deaths for U.S. teenagers.  The VRG Foundation is using the National Teen Driver Safety Week as a platform to create positive change.

Please take driving seriously and make good decisions.     Do it for Vincent.
